Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection to your email account. Adding your mobile number ensures that if you lose access or forget your password, you can receive recovery codes or security prompts via SMS. Here’s how to set it up for common email providers.

For Microsoft Outlook / Office 365

1. Log In to Your Microsoft Account

2. Go to Security Settings

  • Click Security in the top menu
  • Under Advanced security options, click Get started

3. Add a Phone Number

  • Under Ways to prove who you are, click Add a new way to sign in or verify
  • Select Phone number
  • Choose your country code and enter your mobile number
  • Choose how you’d like to receive codes (Text or Call)
  • Enter the verification code sent to your phone

✔️ Your phone number is now linked for 2FA and recovery.

For Gmail (Google Accounts)

1. Log In to Your Google Account

2. Go to Security Settings

  • Click Security on the left panel
  • Under “How you sign in to Google”, click 2-Step Verification

3. Add or Update Phone Number

  • Click Get Started (if not already enabled)
  • Enter your mobile number
  • Choose to get codes via Text Message or Phone Call
  • Click Next, enter the code sent to your phone, then click Turn On

For Other Email Providers (e.g., Yahoo, iCloud)

  • Visit the security or account settings section
  • Look for 2FA, login verification, or account recovery
  • Follow the prompts to add a mobile number and verify it

Tips

  • Always use a mobile number you currently have access to
  • If you change your number, update it immediately in your account settings
  • Avoid using a shared or work number for personal email recovery
  • Consider setting up an authenticator app (like Microsoft Authenticator or Google Authenticator) for added security
